final film
Untitled from lucas ormond-skeaping on Vimeo.
Here's my final film, the title is'decayed'.
you may notice that there aren't any titles other than the actual film title
this is because i want the film to introduce the character throughout the
story and not associate them with the actors who play them.
Title: decayed
Genre: psychological thriller/zombie horror
Age rating recommendation:15-18
produced, filmed and edited by Lucas Ormond Skeaping.
music by Lucas & Teo Ormond Skeaping
I'd also like to point out that all music is original and produced by my Brother and I. no copyright was involved.
media evaluation (7) looking back at you preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?
i believe i have vastly improved my filming techniques, for example i have...
.discovered and created more ways to film and different shooting styles.
.created and developed more shots and camera angles to use in filming.
.greater understood the way the camera works and how to develop sound.
.learnt to create, edit and mix my own music for a specific genre of movie.
.textural analysis of another movie or film.
.and using editing software to patch multiple pieces of film, sound and music together to create a movie piece with good sound, music and match on actions.
all these skills have been influential to me creating my final piece which i have named 'Decayed'. i personally am very happy with the turn out of my movie and may use these skills again in the future.

media evaluation (6) What have u learned about technologies from the process of creating your media product?
I have learned to create a variety of different camera shots and effects including blur, fade and pan. Not only this I have learned how the shot being in focus isn’t necessarily something you need to maintain but shots can come into focus from blur, stay blurred to create a silhouette or shadow.
Another thing I’ve learned is how to make my footage looks more professional by using supper steady shots and Appling filters in adobe premiere such as de-saturation and frame blend to create smoother clips and slow-motion scenes
media evaluation (5) What elements of your text would attract the target audience?
I believe the comedy aspect of my text will attract a larger audience than if the film was too serious. The character in my movie is also quite lazy, when people tell him what to do he gets agitated and grumpy and much prefers to do his own thing and when a situation gets too much for him and he needs help his reaction would be embarrassed about being helped and annoyed that he couldn’t handle the situation alone. This is very typical for a cocky or over confident character, I don’t want my character to be perfect and loved by the audience I want them to resent and even hate him at times.
evealuation (5) Who would be the audience for you media product?
For my films genre the typical age group would tend to be 15-30/40. Due to the content proposed in my film it would not sustain an age rating below 15 stretching to 18. Usually a zombie movie would be and 18 but due to the nature of violence in the media and how lightly it is taken today my film may stretch to a 15 if it was considered a comedy like Shaun of the dead.
my audience would be those who enjoy horrors and psycho thrillers (young adults) the plot line wouldn't be hugely thought out so the movie would be easy enough to follow without being confusing to most party's.
This doesn't mean I want the story line to be a flop; there will still be moments when you hang onto your seat and gasp at the outcome I want my movie to be clever but still easy to follow.

evaluation (3) What kind of institution might distribute your media product?
This I had to do some research for, some company associated with 'Shaun of the dead' and 'black sheep' such as 'ICON films'. The film producers would need to be quite professional, no small companies could put this together easily. If I was looking for a more serious production 'DNA films' that produces both the '28 days later' films would be an adequate decision.
The reason I have chosen these company's it because my media is similar to film previously made by both parties and the production would be professionally done. As large film company's they no doubt have good resources, these would be needed for special effects such as fake gore and explosions. Both of these can be done using 'adobe after effects' but can look clumsy if not done professionally.

media evaluation (2) How does your media product represent particular social groups?
The two characters in the film are around the age of 17 or 18, this is a first for a zombie film as the main characters tend to be older. My characters costume focuses on him keeping warm, he wears an old camo jacket with an under jumper (hoody) and hat, his shoes are classic teenager high top/flattop shoes and his characteristics show how he is dealing with the situation. This might appeal to younger members of the public as they may see them-selves in that position. For example everyone who has ever seen a zombie film thinks they would be a survivor in that position I aim to show this in my film, but in reality most of the people who think they would survive would be dead which I will also show.
The idea is that my character is trying to be a hero (searching buildings and old shops for food and survivors) when in reality him being alone makes him scared to explore and put himself in danger. This situation would be common in most people who thought they could survive without admitting that they would probably make the worst of the situation. Unlike most zombie films my film will have no scent of government military securing and saving survivors. The idea is that they wouldn’t bother with such a small town but would concentrate on larger cities likePlymouth , Exeter and London .
